Help shape how our community connects with Council by bringing stories to life. Working in a key role within the Manawatū District Council's (MDC) Communications and Engagement team, you'll craft and deliver engaging campaigns that inform, inspire, and build meaningful connections between Council and Community. From amplifying key messages to creating content and championing storytelling, you'll play a pivotal role in enhancing Council's reputation.

RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Design and deliver strategic communications for MDC client groups, championing their projects through various channels
  • Create engaging content for internal/external audiences while managing media relations and emergency communications
  • Embed Te Ao Māori principles in partnership with iwi Māori
  • Develop comprehensive communications plans with measurable outcomes, while maintaining risk management and content development strategies across all channels
  • Build strong relationships across MDC, media, community groups and key stakeholders, understanding their unique needs and engagement preferences
  • Proactively seek success stories, embodying a "can do" attitude that delivers innovative content

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of diploma qualification with relevant experience, or an experienced Communications Adviser with a tertiary degree, demonstrating exceptional writing and proof-reading skills
  • Adaptable dedicated team player with conceptual thinking abilities who can present ideas clearly
  • Proficiency in CMS, social media, and design tools like Adobe Creative Suite or Canva
  • Skilled relationship builder able to work confidently with diverse personalities and influence effectively across MDC
  • Self-motivated professional capable of prioritising workloads in a fast-paced environment, comfortable juggling multiple projects simultaneously
