Four easy steps to impress a Recruiter

Posted On August 24, 2023

Your recruiter is the first connection between you and your new job. With a recruiter on your side you open up the door to a wide range of job opportunities. Impress us and you are bound to impress a potential employer.

These four steps may seem obvious, but they can be often overlooked. If you are coming to meet with a recruiter, or approaching an interview with an employer, these basic rules of recruitment will set you up for success:

Be on-time

Work backwards and allow yourself a buffer zone so you arrive before your scheduled time. Allow time for traffic and to find a park. 5 – 10 minutes early is ideal.
We know unexpected things happen so if you do find yourself running late, a courtesy phone call is always appreciated.

Dress appropriately

This can be overlooked when coming to visit a recruiter, you should treat your meeting as you would an interview for your preferred role. Think neat and presentable, ensure your clothes (and shoes) are clean and tidy.

Complete any pre-interview tasks beforehand
Before we meet we will have asked you to complete our registration form – so please complete this prior to your interview as this will form part of our discussion. For roles with an administration component we may ask you to complete our computer testing, or we may ask you to bring details of your current referee.

Completing a task requested by the recruiter prior to interview means they can progress with your details for potential roles in a timely manner. It also demonstrates you are willing to partner with us to secure employment opportunities for you, and we are much more likely to invest our time in you if we know we can partner with you rather than chasing for information.

Put some thought into your interview

Recruiters endeavour to place you in a job which best fits your skills, aspirations and motivations, and to do this we need to understand what these are. No matter if you are climbing the career ladder, taking a step back, starting out or returning to the workforce after a break, understanding your likes, dislikes, preferred industries, strengths and weaknesses will greatly assist us in placing you in a meaningful role within a company aligned with your values.

This can be the start of some robust discussions to progress your career.

Remember your recruiter is here to support and guide you into a new role, so help us to help you find a new career pathway. We offer permanent, temporary or contract positions. If you are wanting to explore new options get in touch with the team at PN Personnel.
