Technology assists but will never replace a robust recruitment strategy
Technology has advanced in leaps and bounds, but it will never replace the value in real connections, conversations and relationships. For recruitment it is our relationships, built and developed on understanding and trust, which are key to recruitment success.
These relationships start with our Clients and their businesses, and our understanding of their organisational goals and needs. From our discussions and visits with our Clients, we fully understand their recruitment need, whether it be for a permanent employee in their team or temporary staff cover.
At PN Personnel we utilise technology to assist in our recruiting processes, but not to recruit.
When it comes to our recruitment processes, we utilise technology to streamline and fast track advertising, applications and the administration processes, which assists in the overall recruitment.
Technology saves time and assists a recruiter in accessing and searching for the right information, and effectively communicating this information. Consider a job advertisement for example, one ad can be sent to many online platforms at the push of a button.
Recruitment however, will always be about people.
The key to a successful recruitment for our Clients is an understanding of those people applying to fill the vacancy. It is the soft skills which are not easily conveyed via a CV or email.
We consider a range of interpersonal skills such as:
· Team work
These skills are best assessed through conversations and face to face interviews.
If meeting face to face is not possible, technology can assist in the interview process. Utilising on-line video technology means you can still see and hear an applicant, you can even take them for a virtual tour of your business, but you cannot properly convey the working environment of your business.
We spend much of our time emailing, texting, posting but this will never replace a handshake.
If your vacancy was for a salesperson, interpersonal skills like the ability to be persuasive and negotiate would be evaluated through our discussions. If the vacancy was a receptionist at a doctor’s clinic, we would be evaluating the interpersonal skills of caring and sensitivity.
As Recruitment Specialists we are trained and experienced at asking the questions to best assess and evaluate these interpersonal skills.
The value to our Clients is our ability to advise on applicants based on consideration of both their hard and soft skills in relation to the vacancy.
Applicants will need to demonstrate that they have both hard and soft skills, such as:
· Technical/computer skills to perform in the role
· Knowledge and experience to undertake the duties of the role
· People skills to liaise with the business team, customers and business clients
· Personality to fit within the work environment and culture
· Attitude to work with the existing team
· Ability to fit within the hierarchy of the organisational structure of the business.
